British Grand Prix

1. British Grand Prix – A brief history
The British Grand Prix is a race in the calendar of the FIA Formula One World Championship. It is currently held at the Silverstone Circuit near the village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire in England. The British and Belgian Grands Prix are the oldest continuously staged Formula One World Championship Grands Prix. It was first staged as the Royal Automobile Club Grand Prix on 26 May 1926 at Brooklands, Surrey. This was the first-ever Grands Prix and was organized by the British Automobile Racing Club with the cooperation of the RAC. The race was won by Italian driver Antonio Ascari driving the Alfa Romeo P2.
The event subsequently became part of the European Championship before being given World Championship status in 1950. A number of British drivers have gone on to win the British Grand Prix including Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, and Lewis Hamilton. The event has also been won by drivers from all over the world including Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.
The British Grand Prix has been held at a number of different venues throughout its history. The first-ever race was held at Brooklands and the race has also been held at Aintree, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park, and most recently, at the Circuit of Wales.
The current venue for the British Grand Prix is the Silverstone Circuit. The circuit is situated on the site of a former World War II Royal Air Force bomber station. The circuit was first used for motor racing in 1947 and has been the home of the British Grand Prix since 1987.
The Silverstone Circuit is one of the most iconic and historic venues in Formula One. The circuit is known for its high-speed corners and fast straights. The layout of the Silverstone Circuit has been unchanged since 2010.
The British Grand Prix is traditionally held on the last weekend in June. The race is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday, 30 June 2019.

3. British Grand Prix – Future of the race
The future of the British Grand Prix is currently up in the air, with the current Silverstone Circuit set to host the race for the final time in 2019. After that, the race will move to a new location, with Donington Park and the Circuit of Wales both being touted as potential new homes
The British Grand Prix has been held at Silverstone since 1948, making it the oldest race on the Formula One calendar. However, the circuit is in need of a major upgrade if it is to continue hosting the event, and the owners of the circuit have been unwilling to invest the necessary funds.
As a result, it was announced in 2017 that the race would be moving to a new location from 2020 onwards. Donington Park and the Circuit of Wales were both tipped as potential new homes for the event, but neither of these plans came to fruition.
The current situation means that the future of the British Grand Prix is very much up in the air. It is unclear where the race will be held from 2020 onwards, and it is possible that the event may not take place in the UK at all.
This would be a huge shame, as the British Grand Prix is one of the most iconic races on the Formula One calendar. The race has a rich history and is hugely popular with both fans and teams.
It is vital that a solution is found soon so that the future of the British Grand Prix can be secured.
